Advantages to Making Grandpa's Homemade Rocket!

Grandpa's Homemade Rocket utilizes the same 1/2 inch diameter engines (C6-5 works best), associated pieces, launch base and controller which can be purchased separately from the normal sources or you can make your own.

Grandpa's Homemade Rocket is well planned and designed for durability, efficient flight and recovery.
It has many (A) advantages over the store bought rocket.

Store bought rockets are ready to assemble but there are several (D) disadvantages to their design and with the materials which are used.

1.   A - Grandpa's Homemade Rocket Body and Nose Cone are made from 3/4 inch PVC plastic pipe and fittings which are strong and durable.   It can easily withstand the elements and the stress of multiple landings on any terrain.

D - The store bought rocket is usually made of cardboard or thin wood and can be destroyed if it gets wet.

2.   A - Grandpa's Homemade Rocket Body will never be zippered by the Shock cord because the Rocket Body is a strong PVC plastic and is designed with the Shock cord attached to the outer Body.  The Shock cord passes freely through an open V notch on the upper edge of the Body located just below the Nose cone.

D - The store bought rocket suffers from the zipper effect, which is when the shock cord tears through the flimsy body material after the parachute is ejected by the force of the rocket engine.  This is because the shock cord is attached to the inner body.

3.   A - Grandpa's Homemade Rocket uses 4 vinyl plastic Fins which are much more sturdy and as strong as a Compact Disc.  They are designed for easy replacement at very little cost.

D - The store bought rocket has fins made of very soft balsa wood that will usually be destroyed in short time if they land on a rough surface.

4.   A - Grandpa's Homemade Rocket is a heavier weight material, but will still shoot as high as any other rocket and the Parachute is designed to allow the Rocket to descend quickly back to the ground and prevent excessive drifting during recovery so the Rocket returns in a closer proximity to the launch site.

D - The store bought rocket is usually made of cardboard or thin wood which is a very light weight material and will usually drift endlessly out of sight in the air as it comes down, especially on a windy day.   Many have been lost or were not able to be recovered which is a very expensive disadvantage.

5.  A - You can Make Grandpa's Homemade Rocket for About a Dollar!

D - The store bought rocket is expensive to replace, from about $15 up.
